 » Grants for LPG vehicles

From Monday 14 August 2006 the Federal Government will provide grants for the purchase of an LPG vehicle or the conversion of a vehicle to run on LPG.

The grants include the following:

• $1,000 toward the purchase cost of a new LPG-dedicated or dual-fuel (petrol/LPG)vehicle for non-business use
• $2,000 toward the cost of approved and fitted LPG conversion of a motor vehicle for non-business use

To be eligible the vehicle must be for private use (not for commercial or business use) and:

• Any passenger or light commercial vehicle weighing less than 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass
• Must be registered in the state of residence of the claimant
• The vehicle must not be subject to a novated lease or salary sacrifice
• One conversion per person every three years

These grants will be available for a period of 8 years, so there is plenty of time to get LPG for your vehicle.

You will need to pay for the purchase or conversion first and then claim back the grant from either a Centrelink or Medicare office.

Applications can be submitted from 1 October 2006 and you will need a receipt for the installation or purchase showing a payment date of 14 Aug 2006 or later.

Application forms will be available in early September from Centrelink and Medicare locations and via the AusIndustry web site.
