Inspect the electrolyte level at least once a week. If it is low, add enough distilled water to keep the level about 10 mm to 20 mm over the cell plates. If the battery has a level indicator you should use this as a guide.

• Have the battery tested at a VACC accredited repair shop regularly, especially as the colder winter weather approaches.
• Keep the terminals and connections clean and tight and the terminals coated with petroleum jelly or terminal grease.
• Keep the vent caps tightly closed.
• Keep the battery securely mounted.
• Keep the battery top clean and dry.
• Rinse off any spilled electrolyte immediately with a solution of water and baking soda.

Warning!
Keep lighted cigarettes and matches or other flames away from the battery, because they emit an explosive gas mixture which can easily be ignited.
Do not get any of the electrolyte, which is sulphuric acid, in your eyes, on your skin or clothing, or on any painted surface. When checking the electrolyte level or cleaning the battery terminals always wear eye protection.
