The VACC Electricity Buying Group (EBG) has been operating successfully for some 10 years. Over this time, many VACC members have benefited from participation by way of lower prices and contracts offering greater protection.

We are all aware of rising business costs. One fact you may not be familiar with is how, over the last 3 years,  the wholesale energy price of electricity has moved upwards by a massive 77%! *  The VACC Electricity Buying Group has shown over the years to be a consistent example of how, through a process of collective bargaining, it is possible to contain cost increases for individual members.

Feel free to email your thoughts, comments and suggestions on this or any other VACC member initiative by emailing marketing@vacc.com.au Ask an electricity related question that we will put to our industry experts. Don't be afraid to ask - there’s no need to remain in the dark!

 Assessing electricity offers

Are you comparing 'Like for Like?'

In the current energy environment, VACC members may be contacted from time to time by energy retailers, consultants and other related businesses.

A caution: sometimes claims are made by these businesses offering ‘huge savings’. There are energy traps out there and contracts which can expose you to unexpected price hikes and charges. Any claims made should be substantiated and verified at all times and clear evidence provided.

VACC members should exercise due care and diligence at all times when evaluating either a proposed energy contract or any claim regarding an energy offer. While often difficult to achieve (as energy contracts can be quite complex), it is necessary to ensure that contracts are compared on a ‘like for like’ basis.

VACC assures members that our Electricity Buying Group initiative is conducted with due process and independent industry advice, provided by our consultants. This initiative has been operating successfully over the last 10 years and members continue to benefit greatly from participation.

How to determine annual electricity consumption

As most electricity accounts relate to a quarterly period, your total annual consumption can typically be determined by adding up your Peak and Off Peak electricity consumption as shown on one of your bills and then multiplying this total KWh by 4. Should you be billed monthly for your electricity, you will need to multiply by 12.

VACC members (with electricity consumption >40,000 KWh per quarter)

There are many Members benefiting from the VACC-negotiated deal that offers price certainty and contract protection. This Offer is effective now and runs up to December 31st, 2011.

Please note: If you have received your Offer, it is important that you action this to avoid going on higher "Default' rates and reverting to a potentially less protected position in the event where your Offer lapses. Electricity Offers typically have a short and limited timeframe allowed for customer acceptance.
