VACC is campaigning for motor vehicle insurance to be clearer, simpler and more consumer-friendly.
All too often, policies are skewed in favour of the insurance company and not the policy holder.
VACC wants insurance companies to adopt a new approach to motor vehicle insurance. We want small print and weighty Product Disclosure Statements (PDS) to be banned. We want exclusions and restrictions to be highlighted, and we want comprehensive insurance to mean just that.
Take Choice of Repairer as an example. It should be obvious from the PDS if a policy holder can chose which repairer can repair the vehicle following a crash, right? Wrong!
Just have a look at our Consumer Choice Comparison Table. We took the Choice of Repairer sections from insurance companies’ PDS and translated them into plain English. It took a little time but was easy to do. Why could the insurance companies not have done this themselves? Why do they like to use complicated technical language, bury important information and hide behind small print?
And it is the same with comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. There are too many exclusions and too many restrictions – if a policy is called comprehensive, in our opinion, it should mean just that.
We have also carried out various other activities on this subject, which we have made available on this page.
