Get your car serviced this Summer
Unroadworthy cars are major risks to families travelling on the State’s roads these holidays, the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) said today.
VACC Executive Director David Purchase said before heading off on holidays, the family car should have a Five-Point Safety Check with a service to ensure it’s roadworthy and safe for a long trip.
“A car’s lights, brakes, tyres, steering and restraints are vital, and if they’re not functioning properly, they’re risking lives,” he said.
“Drivers deal constantly with others on the road drink driving, speeding, driving impatiently or tired,” he said.
“A combination of this, mixed with difficult driving conditions and an unsafe car is surely a nasty accident waiting to happen.
Mr Purchase also suggested families get their car serviced before their holiday travel.
“A VACC member will perform a Five-Point Safety Check on any car serviced, free of charge.
Mr Purchase said drivers should also try to learn how to identify when their car needed attention.
“Know how to check your tyre pressure and wear, as this not only maintains a good traction with the road, but when looked after properly, it extends the tyres’ lives and reduces petrol consumption,” he said.
“Check your mirrors and windows, ensuring nothing is blocking your view. And make sure your lights and indicators are working.
Mr Purchase suggested owners book their vehicles in for a service and receive a free Five-Point Safety Check from their local VACC to ensure their families stay safe on the roads during the holidays.
