Young people with an interest in the future of motoring and car design are invited to enter the VACC Target 2020 Competition, the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) said today.
If they do, they stand to be in the running to win $3000 for themselves and another $3000 for their school, TAFE or University.
The competition invites high school students from Years 9-12 and university and TAFE students to design, make or write about their car design for the future.
VACC Executive Director David Purchase said this was a fantastic opportunity for budding young designers to showcase their work.
“We had a wonderful response to last year’s competition. This year, with the support of the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, many schools are developing curriculum around this project,” he said.
“The motor vehicle industry is an incredibly creative, dynamic industry. At the moment, with oil prices forcing us all to consider alternative fuels and technologies, we are entering a new era of design.”
Last year VACC gave away $36,000 in prizes to young designers.
One of the recipients, Adam Ty Dean Smith has since been accepted by Ford Australia, with Secondary School prize winner, Will Dumaresq, gaining a place at Monash University studying Industrial Design.
“I recommend students get in early and start their designs now, before the December close of entries,” Mr Purchase said. “The winners will be announced at the 2007 Melbourne International Motorshow.”
