Good for motorists, good for crash repair industry
Nationwide voluntary Code between insurers and repairers
Federal Minister for Small Business and Tourism Fran Bailey will launch the new national Motor Vehicle Insurance and Repair Industry Code of Conduct at the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, 29 August 2006, at midday.
All media are invited to attend at 464 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne at 11.45am for the official proceedings to kick off at 12pm.
Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) Executive Director, David Purchase, said the Code of Conduct was a win both for motorists and the industry.
“From 1 September this year, this voluntary code will ensure motorists insured with the Code’s signatories will see a far more transparent and accountable system in place,” he said.
“The best thing for consumers is that their cars will be returned to them with the highest standard of repairs.
“This code is also very positive for the industry itself, as we will now see a far more even playing field in the dealings between insurers and small business crash repairers.
“Under the Code, both insurers and repairers will be more accountable, with high standards of conduct agreed to by both parties.”
Mr Purchase said VACC had been working towards this outcome for almost a decade.
“The Federal Minister for Small Business and Tourism has played a vital role in seeing this voluntary code of conduct come into effect,” he said.
“If it weren’t for her commitment, this national industry Code of Conduct would have foundered to the detriment of both motorists and crash repairers.”
