Newly elected VACC President, Mr Graeme Hill, is about to prove that he is a hands-on leader.

Graeme will have his hands on the wheel of his 1964 Historic go-kart as he takes part in the build-up to this weekend’s MOJO Rotax Four Hour Karting Enduro, being held at VACC Park, Port Melbourne.

Graeme, who became the VACC’s 52nd President in November, has always been a karting enthusiast.

“I built my first kart aged 17 and used to compete at the Dandenong Drive-In and on the dirt track at Wesburn.

“I have always loved karting and I am very pleased to be involved at VACC Park, and especially pleased to see so many youngsters taking part,” he said.

On Saturday morning, Graeme will fire up his 100cc, 5hp kart which is powered by a Danarm chainsaw engine based on a Villiers 7F. He will then dust off his helmet and goggles, for two cracks at the 1005m track, at 9am and 11am.

Graeme will be in good karting company at VACC Park. The afternoon’s Enduro event will pit some of Australia’s finest karters against some of the biggest names in V8 Supercar racing.

Sprint Gas Racing’s Jason Richards, who finished runner-up at this year’s Bathurst 1000, will pair with team engineer Adam DeBorre for the four and a half hour race.

VACC ambassador, Tony D’Alberto will trade in his V8 Supercar for a 125cc Rotax powered-kart, as will the Garry Roger’s Motorsport duo of Lee Holdsworth and Michael Caruso.

From the karting world, David Sera with 7 Australian Championships and 31 state titles competes, fresh from his exploits at the World Finals in Italy. And the Price brothers, Bart and Shane, sons of Drew Price, will make a formidable team as they compete alongside each-other for the first time.

The Enduro event involves forty-six teams, comprising of two drivers, who each have to complete a minimum of 90 minutes behind the wheel. The main event starts at 12.30pm, following a junior endurance race for boys and girls aged between 12 and 15.
