22 October - VACC turns the screw on Vehicle Safety

VACC will be promoting Vehicle Safety at this weekend’s Community Safety Day.

The peak Automotive Industry body in Victoria is calling on motorists to take Vehicle Safety seriously by having their car regularly serviced by a professional.

And to help motorists make sure their vehicle is well maintained, VACC has devised a free Five Point Safety Check. Motorists should ask their participating VACC repairer to check the key safety areas of their vehicle – brakes, tyres, lights, steering and restraints - the next time they book their car in for a service.

VACC’s stand at Docklands will display a car with a sign asking “This car may look new, but how safe is it?” Visitors will be encouraged to examine the safety aspects of their vehicles and discuss vehicle safety. VACC hopes motorists will think of vehicle safety, in the same way they do other road and driver safety campaigns.

The VACC stand will also provide information about replacing windscreens as well as offer advice on tyre pressures and on ‘one way’ number plate retaining screws.

The theft of number plates from vehicles within our community is high. Over 50 percent of fuel theft involves vehicles with stolen plates.

The ‘one way’ screw program, available through 500 VACC member businesses, protects a vehicle from the theft of its number plates thus stopping their potential involvement in criminal activity.

Community Safety Day
Melbourne’s emergency and safety services bring their special skills and impressive equipment to a fun day at Docklands. Come see Victoria Police’s Air Wing in action, helicopters, boats, fire trucks and other vehicles used in rescues and emergencies around Victoria. And there’s the chance to meet those who work and volunteer to protect us as well as see working horses, dogs and puppies in training. Plus bands, demonstrations, kids’ activities and more.
