 » 15 September - VACC Fair Work Act seminars
If you are a business owner, you need to be across the new workplace relations system. The Fair Work Act has implications for employers and employees.

VACC recognises this can be a complex and difficult issue to fully comprehend and, to help business owners understand the implications of the Fair Work Act, has organised a series of seminars.

The seminars are funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations, as part of the Fair Work Education and Information Program.

The seminars - in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland - will run from October to December 2009.

They are free and open to all.

The new Fair Work Act commenced on July 1, 2009, and there will be further changes, as of 1 January 2010. The key points are:

·         No exclusions for unfair dismissal provisions based on business size;
·         A new fair dismissal code for businesses with fewer than 15 employees;
·         Altered right of entry provisions;
·         New ‘good faith bargaining’ requirements for collective bargaining;
·         Revised rules relating to sale or outsourcing of a business where existing staff are retained;
·         The establishment of Fair Work Australia and the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Find out how changes to the workplace relations system will affect your business.

Do not be tempted to consign this important information to the ‘too hard’ basket. As a business owner, you must be aware of your responsibilities and obligations.
