Organisers of the Deni Ute Muster want to find a name for Deniliquin’s famous ‘Ute on the Pole’; and they want your help.
Deni Ute Muster and Deniliquin Council are asking people to think of a name for the iconic landmark.
That is why they have launched a competition through Australian Automotive, Australia’s largest circulating Automotive Industry magazine, published by VACC.
Deni Ute Muster, General Manager, John Harvie, said Australian Automotive was the perfect fit for the event, held on 1-2 October 2010.
“With its circulation reaching well over 32,000 automotive businesses across Australia, we think Australian Automotive’s large readership will come up with some great names. We will then put those names to a vote at Deniliquin Council,” Mr Harvie said.
The New South Wales town is regarded as the ‘Ute Capital of the World’ and, in 1999, it entered the history books, claiming the Guinness Book of Records title for the largest parade of Utes in the world, with 2,839 drivers taking part.
In recognition of the achievement, Deniliquin Council erected a WB V8 Holden Ute, mounted on a six-metre pole in 2000. The ‘Ute on the Pole’ has drawn thousands of visitors to Deniliquin each year, but until now, it has never had a proper name.
“Australian Automotive is proud to be connected with this great event. The ‘Ute on the Pole’ is representative of Australia’s spirit and enterprise, not to mention a lifelong passion for cars,” Australian Automotive editor, David Dowsey, said.
“To enter the competition, write down your suggestion and send it to us. It could not be simpler and you can enter as many times as you like. The winner will be announced in September, just prior to the event. There is also a chance to win some other prizes through each issue of Australian Automotive, including a pair of adult Deni Ute Muster tickets, a helicopter ride for two, Deni Ute Muster merchandise, and a backstage ‘meet and greet’ for two with some of the Muster’s great artists,” Mr Dowsey said.
