15 March 2010 - Accelerate your future at the Int Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show

VACC is talking training this week. The peak Automotive Industry body in Victoria is promoting heavy and commercial vehicle career opportunities at the International Truck, Trailer and Equipment Show (ITTES), at the Melbourne Showgrounds, March 18-20, 2010.

“The heavy and commercial vehicle industry is booming and is only going to get bigger,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.

“For anyone thinking of a career in the truck and trailer sector, this is a great time and the ITTES is a great opportunity to talk about training.

“It is a high-tech sector at the forefront of modern engineering and safety designs. Whether you are into manufacturing, service and repairs, body modifications and component parts, the truck and trailer industry has a variety of career pathways to follow. We will be happy to discuss any of these with you at our stand, number 31 in the Grand Pavilion,” Mr Purchase said.

VACC is the largest employer of automotive apprenticeships in Victoria, and supports the industry through the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association (CVIA) and the Commercial Vehicle Body Manufacturers Association (CVBMA).

VACC auto-apprenticeships offer young men and women a number of benefits when they join the auto-apprentice program. There is also a scheme for mature apprentices:

  • Job security - if the host cannot support the apprentice, VACC auto-apprenticeships will re-assign the trainee to another host.
  • Host employers – VACC has a vast network of host employers in the Heavy Vehicle, Agricultural, Earth Moving, Commercial Vehicle Modifications and Bus & Trailer industries.
  • Career opportunities - Apprentices will receive hands-on technical training from their host. Why not become an expert in your field?
  • Additional training - Once qualified, VACC auto apprentices can attend further courses to achieve other work related goals eg Management skills.
  • Mentoring – VACC auto-apprentices are assigned an auto trade qualified Field Officer who provides guidance and coaching.
  • Tools - All VACC apprentices receive a tool box (worth $2,500) specific to their chosen trade. It is theirs to keep upon graduation.
