Featured Article: How Independent Repairers Can Update Customer Service Records via OEM Portals

In an age where digital service records are becoming the norm, independent automotive repairers may worry about being left behind. Fortunately, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) like Volkswagen have made it possible for independent workshops to access and update service records through their official portals, free of charge.

This article outlines how independent repairers can update customer service records using Volkswagen’s erWin portal and why this matters for both businesses and consumers.

Why Access to Digital Service Records Matters

Many modern vehicles no longer come with a physical service book. Instead, service history is recorded digitally by the manufacturer. This makes accessing and updating these records essential for:

- Maintaining resale value
- Ensuring warranty compliance
- Improving transparency with customers

For independent workshops, being able to log service events directly into a vehicle’s official record means remaining competitive with dealerships.

Volkswagen’s erWin Portal

Volkswagen provides independent repairers with access to its Digital Service Schedule (DSS) through the erWin portal:

https://volkswagen.erwin-store.com

This service is free of charge and does not require a flatrate subscription for accessing and updating service history.

How to Update Service Records

1. Register for erWin Access: Visit the erWin portal and click on “My erWin”. Select “Registration” and create a user account.

2. Log In: Use your registered credentials to log in to the portal.

3. Access the Digital Service Schedule: From the main menu, click on “Products and Services” and navigate to the Digital Service Schedule section.

4. Enter the Vehicle VIN: Input the vehicle’s VIN and hit Search. If the DSS is supported, existing service entries will appear.

5. Create a Maintenance Table: Click “Create Maintenance Table” to generate a new record. Once saved, it’s added to the vehicle’s entry list.

6. Print the Service Certificate (Optional): You can print entries via the “Complete Record” column for customer files.

Note on Additional Information

While updating service records is free, access to more detailed data (like workshop manuals or wiring diagrams) requires a paid flatrate subscription.

Other Volkswagen Group Brands

Volkswagen Group uses the same erWin system across multiple brands:

Audi
Skoda
SEAT

Independent repairers can follow a nearly identical process for these brands.

Accessing Other OEM Service Records via AASRA

The Australian Automotive Service and Repair Authority (AASRA) Portal gives independent repairers access to OEM service and repair information, including Digital Service Record updates for several major brands.

Through the AASRA portal, you can access information for:

Toyota
Mazda
Ford
Hyundai
Kia
Subaru
Nissan
... and more as participation grows
