VACC Media Highlights: Weekly Coverage Round-Up

The Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) featured prominently across multiple media platforms this week. CEO Peter Jones made several key appearances to discus and amplify key industry issues and advocacy positions.

Monday: E-Bike Regulation Coverage Across Multiple Platforms

The week began with extensive media coverage of VACC's e-bike advocacy campaign. Peter Jones appeared on 3AW's morning program with Tom Elliott, followed by an afternoon interview with Ali Moore on ABC Radio Melbourne's Drive program.

During the 3AW interview, Jones outlined VACC's concerns about the enforcement of existing national laws under the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018. The discussion focused on how international online sellers continue to supply high-powered models that exceed legal limits, with particular attention to their use in the gig economy where underage and unlicensed riders often operate non-compliant e-bikes for delivery services.

The ABC Radio interview with Ali Moore expanded on these themes, providing additional context around the compliance study VACC is conducting with Monash University in Melbourne's CBD. Listen to the ABC interview here.

The topic gained further media traction through Katherine Fisk's detailed analysis on Drive.com.au, which examined e-bike regulations and their implications for road users. The article provided comprehensive coverage of the regulatory landscape and safety concerns raised by VACC. Read the full Drive.com.au article here.

The media coverage highlighted VACC's five-point action plan, including stronger law enforcement, mandatory commercial registration, licensing requirements, business penalties, and public education initiatives.

The organisation's commentary reached industry publications and rural farming outlets, ensuring the automotive sector's perspective on government spending priorities was represented across diverse media channels. This broad coverage helped communicate VACC's position to both urban automotive industry stakeholders and regional business communities.

Ongoing media

The diverse platform coverage ensures VACC's advocacy messages reach different audience segments, from general radio listeners to specialised automotive readers, maximising the impact of the organisation's policy positions and member representation efforts.
